CCJ Records

A CCJ Record Can Be Repaired

If you have a CCJ record, you are not alone. There are many people who find themselves unable to meet their financial obligations and have a CCJ on their record. However, if you have had a CCJ filed against you it will stay on your record for six years, even if you repay the debt. If you repay the money you owe within thirty days of having received the CCJ, it will not be included on your record at all, If you repay it after that time, you can apply to have a note added to your record stating that the debt is paid in full. A CCJ on your credit record is a very serious charge and it could result in you being refused credit or being charged very high interest rates.

There are ways that a CCJ record can be repaired. There are lenders whom will give you a loan with a CCJ on your record. Working hard to make the payments helps to repair the damage a CCJ does to your record. This helps to repair any adverse credit the record of a CCJ will give you. When you receive notification of a CCJ having been filed by one of your creditors, then you should immediately check to see if it is money you legitimately owe. Many people have been shocked to find a CCJ on their record because of mistakes being made that they overlooked. If you find a CCJ on your record and have no recollection of any documents or court details, then you should contact one of the two main credit reporting agencies - Equifax or Experian, and for a fee of 2 pounds you can get the details of record of the CCJ. If it is not a legitimate debt, you can apply to have the CCJ on your record corrected.

Many people have a CCJ record simply because they did not understand the process.

If you receive notification that a CCJ has been issued against you, you do have to respond to the notification. Failing to do so will result in a CCJ judgement on your record by default. If you have the ability to pay the CCJ judgement debt, it is in your best interest because not responding in any way will show up on your credit record and you will have a CCJ record. There are also situations when a CCJ on your record can be reversed or at least be kept off your record for a while. If you find that you have a CCJ on your record and have no knowledge of it you can apply for a reversal. This reversal of a CCJ on your record is possible if you were not at home to receive the notification, or if you were not given enough time to attend the court proceedings. If you have either of those claims and have evidence to support your claim then the court may reverse the CCJ on your record and give you extra time to repay the debt.

With a CCJ record it is possible to obtain a loan or a mortgage if the amount was only you defaulted on was only small and you have a good explanation as to why you have not made an effort correct the record of the CCJ. Sometimes you may be refused credit because of the record of a CCJ and not know why because lenders do not have to explain when they turn down a request for credit. If you obtain a copy of your credit record and you find there is a CCJ there, it will contain the following information - the date of the CCJ, case number, court name, amount, defendant, and whether or not the debt was ever paid and when. If you need to have further information from the court about the record or wish to have the repayment information added you will need to have the case number of the CCJ. Without this number, nothing will be able to be done about removing the CCJ from your record.
